CLUB EXPECTATIONS

COACHES DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coach is hired by the Director of Coaching and approved by the Board of Directors. The coach has the sole responsibility for coaching the team, which includes:

  • Selecting a team manager and approving any parental team support
  • Selecting and deleting players from the team
  • Determining tactics and formations
  • Determining playing positions
  • Determining playing time
  • Determining times for training sessions
  • Establishing and implementing training techniques and times in accordance with the format developed by the Director of Coaching
  • Recruiting players within the State Association guidelines
  • Selecting tournaments in which the team will play with the recommendation of the Director of Coaching
  • Secure substitute coach, with the guidance of the Director of Coaching, if for any reason the coach is unable to attend a game or practice
  • Ensure that uniform policy is enforced for practice and games
  • Be available to parents to discuss players
  • Keep good communication with the manager regarding team finances


In addition, the coach will:

  • Lead by example
  • Be ultimately responsible for the team regarding the enforcement of all club and team policies, procedures, rules, and regulations including the philosophy of the club
  • Attend all scheduled coaches meetings, including special meetings called by the Director of Coaching
  • At no time, handle any team or club funds, including the maintenance of bank accounts or accounting records


PARENTS EXPECTATIONS

The parents are an integral part of the RGV FC Toros support system. It is important that parents observe the guidelines established by the Club, Leagues, and State Association.


As a parent, I will:

  • Be encouraging, supportive, and affirmative in regard to my child’s play on the field
  • Respect officials and accept their decisions
  • Support the coach, manager, and the team
  • Volunteer my services and talents to the Club when possible
  • Familiarize myself with the Laws of the Game
  • Comply with the rules, policies, and procedures of the team and the club as they apply to me
  • Discuss my child
  • Only with my coach
  • Not with the manager or any other person
  • Only at a time mutually agreed upon by the coach
  • Never prior to, during, or directly after a game


As a parent, I will never:

  • Engage in dissent directed to an official
  • Engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, manager, player, or parent
  • Interfere at any time with the duties and responsibilities of the coach or manager in any way that is detrimental to the team or the RGV FC Toros


PLAYERS EXPECTATIONS

The players are selected by the coach. It is important that players observe the guidelines established by the Club, League, and State Associations


The player will: 

  • Train and play to the best of my ability
  • Have a positive attitude and never quit
  • Win without boasting and exemplify sportsmanship
  • Respect officials and accept their decisions without question
  • Only give positive encouragement to fellow teammates
  • Arrive prepared for all games and training sessions, i.e. proper mental attitude and equipment
  • Respect my coach, teammates, and opponents
  • Learn and obey the Laws of the Game, the team, and the club
  • Practice soccer skills and condition on my own
  • Notify the coach or team manager if I will be tardy for, or unable, to make a practice or game meeting


Furthermore, the player will never:

  • Allow my enthusiasm and commitment for soccer to override my responsibilities to my education
  • Use profane or vulgar language
  • Use a controlled substance unless prescribed by a physician
  • Leave the field or a session without the permission of the coach
  • Disregard any instructions of my coach
  • Forget that I represent the RGV FC Toros

MANAGERS EXPECTATIONS

Managers are responsible for the administration and finances of the respective team. The manager can select parents, with the approval of the coach, to assist with team responsibilities. Additionally, they will be responsible for the following areas: 


Preparing for Tryouts

  • Attend all preseason managers’ planning meetings to receive forms, instructions, and information packets
  • Complete team fact sheet for distribution on signing day
  • Contact players at coach’s request
  • Send out club invitations for tryouts, per coach’s instruction
  • Arrange for parents to help sign players, organize team functions, etc.


Organize Signing Day

  • Ensure that no contract or club paperwork is signed prior to the official signing day
  • Present players and parents with budgeting financial obligations, rules, schedule, contracts, medical releases, and all other information pertaining to team operations and coach’s special instructions
  • Ensure that all paperwork is filled out properly and verify accuracy, including birth certifications
  • Collect initial payment, forms, and paperwork
  • Collect players clothing sizes and order uniforms (all numbers are decided by the coach)

Meet Financial Obligations

  • Ensure, with the help of the coach, that all team obligations to the club are met. In the case of financial hardship or difficulty in collecting fees, a manager should immediately inform the coach, so that he or she may resolve the problem.


Refer all problems involving concerns of playing time and coaching issues to the team coach immediately.
